Russian Czar Paul I made it a crime for anyone to mention his baldness in his presence. The punishment was death by flogging.

Pink was the favorite color of Empress Elizabeth of Russia, daughter of Peter the Great. During her reign from 1761 to 1762, she issued a decree that any other woman who wore pink would be put to death.

For 3,000 years, the secret of making silk was known only to the Chinese. Anyone who revealed it to a foreigner would be put to death.
