Lift A Sail
Copyright 2002 by Jon Gill

When the water closes in
Washing rain and wind and waves
Will I hold the ropes and win
Will I prove myself so brave?
Does it ever seem so easy?
Does it ever turn out right?
Is it ever not this breezy?
Is there ever an end to night?

But I know that there are trials
I won’t let the winds prevail
When they blow me almost under
I’ll lift a sail

The disciples were with Jesus
In a storm with a little boat
It nearly blew them all to pieces
They could barely stay afloat
And Jesus, He was snoring
Seems this day was run-of-the-mill
And even though the waves were pouring
All He said was “Peace, be still.”

There will always be the trials
I won’t let the winds prevail
When they try to blow me over
I’ll lift a sail
