Ode to an Ode
Copyright 2000 by Jon Gill
The sweetness of the rhythms
And the floating melodies
So often likened to the birds
That sing atop the trees
The merry sound of travel
On life’s adventurous road
The song that makes it all worthwhile
This is the illustrious Ode.
Through laughter, joy, or satire
For remembrance or praise
This song is always in our hearts
On the lips of those who raise
Our spirits lift, our faces smile
We are rid of our heavy load
We gather ‘round in awe and joy
And listen to the Ode.
The song is sung,
The journey done,
Let not thee forebode;
And cry not long
But praise the song
All hearken to the Ode.
