In the beginning
When the universe was made
God commanded light to shine
And called it a good day
And ever since that morn
We see this pattern divine:
That a candle in the darkness
Wins every time.

For I know that night is just
The absence of day
And I know that I can trust
Every word you say
The only darkness I see
Is when I turn away from You
And I know that where You take me
There’ll be Truth.

For so long I cried and cried
From the darkness I was in
I thought that I was trapped
And overcome by sin
But now I see that just a
Tiny spark can light a blaze
And the gates of Hell
Can’t prevail
Against the onslaught of the Saints!

And I know that night is not
More powerful than the day
And I know that I can trust
Every word You say
The darkness that remains
Is just the wind and waves and sea
And now I walk on water
In Victory!
