The Measure of a Man
Copyright 2003 by Jon Gill

The measure of a man is not in his size or strength,             1 Sam 16:7
But in the size of his heart, and the strength of his will.

It is not in the volume of his voice,
But in the weight of the words he speaks.

It is not in the success of the life he leads,
But the success he has in leading others.

It is not in the women which pursue him, nor the women he pursues,
But in the woman he wins.             Prov 31:10-11,23 & Prov 12:4

It is not in the distance from home that he travels,
But whether he will go the distance in his own home.

It is not in the manner he fights,
But the enemies he defeats.

It is not in the glory of the battle,
But for whom it is fought.

It is not in the pride of victory,
But humility in defeat.

It is not only standing on the peaks of accomplishment,
But remaining standing in the valleys of failure.

It is not in how much he knows,
But how much he learns.             Prov 9:9

It is not in the ones he leads,
But the One he follows.             Matt 4:19-20

It is not in what he abstains from doing,             Matt 15:17-18
But in what he does and why he does it.

It is not only what he gives his life to,
But what he gives his life for.

It is not only in the honor of being a man of God,
But the joy of being a child of God.

The measure of a man cannot be measured by other men.             Acts 5:29
It is not determined by women, by peers, by lesser men, nor by greater men.
It can only be determined by man's perfect Creator, and such a standard he will never attain.             Rom 3:23
But the measure of a man is not in how perfect he is, but in how hard he works to become so.

The heart of a man is like deep water;
Who can know it?

The measure of a man is like deep space;
Who can finalize it?

"As the heavens for height, and the earth for depth,
So the heart of kings is unsearchable."             Prov 25:3
