Lover Of The Ages
Copyright 2004 by Jon Gill

Why is it so difficult
To trust that You are True?
What hinders the very miracle
That I am loved by You?
Is it the arrows in my side
From errant wandering miles?
Or the fact that ne’er has bonafide
Been seen before Your smile...

Truly You have said to me
Your Words will never die
And what You speak will come to be
Oh, what a fool am I!
For you take in that which never
Was worth a bit of dust,
Breathe on it life forever
And cultivate my trust!

O Lover of the Ages,
My matchless Maker, Lord!
O Warrior that rages
With Spirit and with sword!
O Tenderness and Perfect Love,
O Mercy and Forgiveness!
Pure Joy has seized me from above
With grip of lovingkindness!

Breathe Your sweetness on my face
And whisper in my ear
Keep me warm with Your embrace
And wipe away my fears
Sustain me with Your very strength
That I may live to be
Forever Yours, at every length
The Lover of The King.
