A Little Lesson I've Learned
Copyright 2000 by Jon Gill
It’s pathetic how tragic
This seems to be to me
Esoteric, not generic
A freedom from my misery?
And all I know
Is that only You know
Deliver me from my depravity
Because right now my soul
Is a wide-open hole
A painful foraminous cavity
There’s a lesson to be learned:
Play with fire and you’ll get burned
And it leaves an ugly scar
But as painful as they are
Maybe your motives have turned
Because if that person wasn’t born to be yours
It’s foolishness to ever open up that door
Foolish fleshly fires always want more
What you give away it won’t repay
Romance is a mystery you don’t need to solve –
If it’s not time for marriage then don’t get involved
Stay with the shepherd to avoid the wolves
To abstain will save you from pain
A recipe for depression:
Giving in to your passion
Man’s heart is evil from birth
Sinful desires
Are dangerous fires
Don’t look for true love on the earth.
