Lead Me Not
Copyright 2002 by Jon Gill
Independent, that's what I am
Standing on my own two legs
Individual, that's what you see
Who's self-sufficient and never begs
You don't see me asking for help
You don't see me on my knees
You don't see me crying "mercy"
You don't see me asking please
Lead me not into temptation
In fact, please lead me not at all
I've got my own good reputation
I stand alone and I stand tall
What's the meaning of surrender?
And why would I even want to know?
Lack of power's a career-ender
I need the spotlight to give my show!
Please don't make me ask forgiveness
Please don't make me turn around
I thought surrendering was for losers
But my winning's put me on shaky ground
So I throw my hands up with no more protest
You quickly cleanse them white as snow
I give you the trophies from my conquests
You give me a crown and new white robe
