The Caves
Copyright 2001 by Jon Gill

From inside the darkest deeps
From the wells where blackness seeps
Below the shiny world of light
Lies a pit of endless night
Among the caves where no moss grows
Here I tread where no man goes
Wrapped inside the inky glove
Remembering little from above
Closer to the dragon’s lair
And why do I not seem to care?

Icy stares I cannot see
From beneath the blanket over me
I know not even my own plight
As I trip over a stalagmite
Without memory of the day
Falling down I try to say
“Lord I do not have a choice!”
then I hear a small familiar voice

He says, “Son can you hear me? I’m calling you”
And slowly I start to come to
As I open my eyes, something new pours through
Is this what light’s supposed to do?
And the sun feels so warm on my darkened face
And now I begin to remember this place
For so long in the caverns I did roam
I knew not the concept of a home

But now I look at Life and Love:
My Savior’s face smiling from above.
