Do You Know Who I AM?
Copyright 1998 by Jon Gill

**This is dedicated to those struggling with depression and those struggling with the opposite (success), for all struggle without Jesus.**

She sits all alone with her head in her hands
She's broken up because no one understands
She thinks back over all she'll leave behind
And as she sits crying, one thing's on her mind:

Do I know who I am?

Her identity's lost as she fades hopelessly
Is there anyone here who can help her to see
The Friend that has been there all of the time
Now when all becomes lost, He comes alongside:

Do you know who I AM?

He's the one who has made the sky and the trees
He's the one who created the fish in the sea
He's the one who loves both you and me
And He'll give us His hand when we hear and believe

He's reading alone and bent on one task
Finding answers to questions not yet asked
He's searching for Truth that cannot be earned
An identity crisis, now the tables have turned:

Do I know who I am?

The reading continues, the frustration mounts
Every word he considers, every factor he counts
His brain becomes weary, his knowledge has grown,
But he closes the book with the answer unknown
Jesus speaks:

Do you know who I AM?

I'm the one who has given the birds their wings
I'm the one who has given the crowns to the kings
I'm the one who loves you more than anything
I'll give you my hand if you come follow Me.

The questions that hound us everyday
Is there anything good we can do or say?
To make it by works seems incredibly tough
What can we do here on earth that's enough?
Our identity's gone if we live life alone
Our purpose in life He has made known
Our lives are missing one simple Thing
Fulfillment is given by Jesus the King!

Now I know who I am through Jesus Christ
I was the sinner, but He paid the price
When you're looking for answers, there's only one place
Leave your questions behind, and look at His face!
