At the Intersection of 4th and Dowd

Verse 1:
At the intersection of 4th and Dowd
Let me show you around the scene
Bill is a singer, the trees are his crowd
And the birds all applaud with their wings
Carl listens too, as he waits for the bus
Though the line shut it down years ago
Still he's waited for years without any fuss
And he'll continue to wait 'til he goes.
(ch.1)
So many people around me
I've touched their lives in many ways
I'll probably never see the outcome
Of the little things I do today
I imagine all the people
Will forget me before too long
But maybe someday when I'm in need
Someone will prove me wrong.
Verse 2:
Irene is the lady who's feeding the squirrels
With the food she picked up off the highway
She's happy with them in their own little world
And doesn't care much for what I say
But the squirrels will miss her if no one else will
Perhaps they'll bury food by her grave
And no one will mourn her, because no one could tell
How much she really gave.
(chorus)
Verse 3:
It's been a few years and things have changed
Though most folks don't really know why
The birds have been singing a sad song for Bill
And Carl's bus finally came in the night
Irene has gone packing, though no one knows where
Most likely a place with more trees
And those familiar squirrels are notably scarce
And change has come in with the breeze
(chorus)
Verse 4:
It looks like my bus will be coming soon
I hope to see Carl on the connection
I've a concert with Bill in a park at high noon
On the corner of the Golden Street section
And Irene, when last seen, wrote a letter to me
And thanked me for all my hard labor
But my work never touched Carl, Bill, and Irene,
But the fact that I just loved my neighbor.
(ch.2)
We all have people around us
We can touch them or push them away
You'll probably never see the outcome
Of whatever you do today
Imagine all the people
And forget them before too long
But hopefully you'll see when you're in need
That that kind of pride is wrong
(ch.3)
Look at the people around you
Connect with their lives in every way
See them with the eyes of He-Who-Found-You
Be that love to others today
Imagine all the people
Together, praising the Son
Thanks to the Golden Rule of compassion -
It's the God-given power of one!
